All 12 lessons include closed captioned videos and downloadable resources such as templates, checklists, worksheets.
In Lesson 1, you learn what agents, studios and clients are looking for when reviewing professional repeats and the most popular repeat styles.
In Lessons 2, you learn why we create repeats, how textiles are produced, and how various production methods affect our work as designers.
In Lessons 3 and 4, you learn two different repeat methods in Adobe Illustrator. Set, tossed and free-flowing pattern layouts are used in these tutorials.
We also cover how to work with transparencies and multiple patterns within a repeat.
In Lesson 8, you learn how to critique your repeat before sending it to an agent, studio or client and you'll put your skills to the test with your own work!
In Lesson 7, you learn how to decide which repeat method to use based upon the artistic style of the pattern you are putting into repeat.
In Lessons 5 and 6, you learn two different repeat methods for working with layered, allover and textural patterns in Adobe Photoshop. We also cover how to work with painterly textures and gradients.
In Lesson 10, you learn how to label your pattern repeats for clients and factory production to insure that your pattern looks as beautiful on the final product as it does on your computer screen.
In Lesson 9, you learn how to color separate your artwork for successful textile design production and what clients might be expecting when they ask for layered artwork files.
Will I personally get feedback on my assignments? Yes. Our Textile Design Lab team of experts responds to questions and offers feedback on artwork through our private, online forum. The team checks the forum multiple times a day, Monday-Friday.
Do I need previous pattern design experience? If you have no pattern design experience we recommend that you start with Surface Pattern Design Mastery. This course will show you how to turn your sketches, paintings and illustrations into surface pattern design layouts in just 6 weeks.
I know how to use Illustrator's Pattern Tool. Will I benefit from this course? Yes! Illustrator's Pattern Making tool is a wonderful resource, but is not the best method for all pattern styles. In this course you'll discover three additional methods to use depending on the style and complexity of the artwork.
Are marketing, layouts or collection development covered in this course? No, but these topics are all covered in other Textile Design Lab courses which are FREE with a Textile Design Lab membership.
Am I locked into a long-term contract when I join the Lab? No. All Textile Design Lab memberships are set to automatically renew, but these payments can be cancelled at anytime. Textile Design Lab memberships are non refundable.
Do I need access to Illustrator or Photoshop? Yes. You must have access to either Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
Will I be able to download the videos? Our Textile Design Lab tutorials are not available for download at this time.
