Ruby Marquet-Horwood is a Printed Textile Designer and 2013 graduate of the Arts University Bournemouth. In June of this year she exhibited at New Designers One Year On, joined by “a select few of the nation’s most promising designers who were handpicked to exhibit at the Business Design Centre, in London’s trendy Islington.” The patterns in today’s post were featured in Ruby’s collection presented at this show.Ruby draws inspiration from “the derelict landscapes of building sites and the reconstruction of demolished or barren terrains. This concept developed after moving into a new house that was in the process of being built. The patterns, textures and inspiration were continuously surrounding her and she quickly formed a real interest in it. Ruby uses this inspiration to create beauty out of desolation, mixing a variety of textures and geometric patterns with a select colour palette to create sophisticated designs, which evince an instantly identifiable aesthetic. This aesthetic translates seamlessly into high-end womenswear, using a variety of luxurious silks to create dresses and scarves.”
