Egle Petrauskaite is the founder and designer of OnaHonour Surface Pattern Design and Illustration studio, and will be a first time exhibitor at Surtex this coming weekend. Egle has such a lovely illustrative style and we were excited to learn more about her design background and process:

“I was born in Lithuania and raised in North-east Scotland from my early teens. I have lived in England for a while and currently reside in Shanghai, China. Onahonour is all about beautifully created intricate designs for interiors, stationery, fashion and homewares. My style is very much inspired by the line work of the French Toile de Jouy. The designs are available for licensing and buying outright, and I’m open to new collaborations and projects.

I graduated with BDes (Honours) Textile Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (Dundee) in 2008 and MA Future Textiles from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (London) in 2010.

During my time at both universities I mastered the technique of screen-printing. I love the journey of screen-printing, from pencil drawing, preparing the screen, mixing dyes to seeing the final design on fabric or paper.

All of my current designs have been created by 1. drawing and sketching out main design ideas on paper 2. working all the line work in with a black pen 3. scanning the inked drawings onto my computer 4. tidying up the artwork 5. and finally working on Photoshop, choosing the layouts and colours.

I like working with colour but I don’t underestimate the power of monochrome designs.

My portfolio ranges from florals, fruits and vegetables to geometrics, a fun circus inspired collection to my Eastern Dreams Collection which I dedicated to the two years I spent in Shanghai.

I will be exhibiting at Surtex in New York (May 15-17) at Javits Centre, Booth 244, with Dot&Flow Collective. The collective is made up of another eight fantastic designers (Natalie Williamson, Hollie McManus, Betsey Hodson, Natasha Kirby, Sareka Unique, Adrienne Vita, Amy Toneys and Metka Hiti) showcasing our beautiful portfolios. Come see me and the girls and don’t forget to check out our website www.dotandflow.comHere you can see a lookbook of all of our works together:
