Designing Christmas and holiday patterns in the summer months might feel out of place for many of us in the Northern Hemisphere. However, for many design calendars, this is the time of year when these festive patterns need to be created. We’re excited to announce a “Christmas in July” event in the Textile Design Lab to inspire and unite our community during this creative challenge. Course Schedule (July 1 – July 31, 2024)
For our Christmas in July celebration, designers will be challenged to create a holiday-inspired pattern collection.
- Week One: Accessing WGSN and starting collection research/mood boards
- Week Two: “How to design for Xmas in home decor,” an expert presentation by Laura Olivia. Recorded presentation released July 8th.
- “Designing for table linen; How to create a successful collection,” an expert LIVE presentation and Q & A with Laura Olivia July 12th at 2pm EDT.
- Week Three & Four: Continue work on your collection
- Week Five: Sharing your final collection asynchronously on our private forums or in our weekly live art critique!
Your Instructor
Laura Olivia is a mentor in the Textile Design Lab and an expert in home decor markets. She studied textile design at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom and specialized in hand-painted artwork. Laura has been working as an in-house designer for four years. Initially for a blinds company, but for the past year, she has worked for a renowned table linen company called Peggy Wilkins Table Linen. Her designs include table runners, tablecloths, cushions, placemats, napkins, and other home accessories. More recently, she helped launch their first ceramics collection, a new and exciting area to add to her portfolio.
