Designer Feature: Paisleys + Florals From Saniya Basit

Growing up surrounded by a wealth of tradition, Saniya is constantly drawn to the beauty of local motifs, particularly paisleys and florals. These elements, often inspired by the architectural wonders of Lahore, Pakistan, find their way into her work as a testament to her cultural roots. Her prints are an artistic fusion of traditional and contemporary techniques, blending ethnic embroidery styles with intricate hand-painted motifs. She has a strong flair for creating patchwork prints and intricate designs.

Saniya primarily works with gouache and watercolor, two mediums that allow her to create rich, vibrant colors and subtle textures. The versatility of gouache gives Saniya the ability to layer and build depth in her artwork, while watercolor adds a fluid, organic quality. These traditional techniques enable her to achieve the expressive and textured effects she loves. To elevate and refine the designs, Saniya uses digital tools, particularly Photoshop, to enhance the details, experiment with color palettes, and refine the overall composition. You can find the latest projects from Saniya on Instagram.
