Spotlight on Resort 2025: Embracing Large Scale Prints and Patterns

As our Textile Design Lab community dove into our Resort 2025 collection pins, one trend stood out in a big way—literally! Large-scale prints and patterns are making a bold statement across the runways, and our insightful community picked up on this striking trend seen in our Pinterest collection.

From For Restless Sleepers Resort to Alberta Ferretti and La DoubleJ, designers are embracing oversized patterns that captivate the eye and celebrate the joy of maximalism. These prints are not just about making a fashion statement; they evoke a sense of playfulness and freedom that perfectly aligns with the resort season’s spirit.

The Power of Large-Scale Prints

Large-scale prints and patterns have a unique way of commanding attention. They transform garments into wearable art, allowing designers to push the boundaries of creativity. For Restless Sleepers Resort wowed us with its luxurious, dreamy, nature-inspired patterns that effortlessly blend sophistication with a hint of whimsy.

Alberta Ferretti took a bold turn with a stunning oversized floral print that flowed beautifully and stood out as one of the key patterns from the collection.

Meanwhile, La DoubleJ took the maximalist approach to new heights with joyful and exuberant prints. Their collections are a testament to how large patterns can infuse energy and vibrancy into resort wear, making every piece a celebration of color and design.

Large-Scale Patterns: Tips for Designers

If you’re feeling inspired to experiment with large-scale patterns in your own designs, here are a few tips to help you get started:

  1. Think Big and Bold: Don’t be afraid to go big when designing large-scale patterns! Embrace oversized motifs that can span across the entire garment or product. Let the pattern be the focal point of the design, whether it’s a single large floral or an abstract shape.
  2. Play with Proportion: Large-scale prints are all about proportion. Consider how the pattern will look when draped on the body. Think about placement—should the pattern be centered, or would an off-center placement create more interest? Experiment with scale to see how different sizes affect the overall look and feel of the design.
  3. Use Negative Space: Large-scale patterns often use negative space to balance the design. Don’t feel the need to fill every inch of the pattern with motifs. Strategic use of open ground can make the design feel more dynamic and give the eye a place to rest.
  4. Test on Mock-ups: Before finalizing your design, test it on a mock-up or a 3D model to see how the pattern interacts with the product’s shape and movement. This will help you adjust the scale and placement as needed.
