Zuzana Kokkinou was born in the Czech Republic, where she grew up immersed in a rich world of handicraft and artistic tradition. From an early age, she was surrounded by embroidery, macramé, crocheting, and knitting — skills passed down through generations that quietly shaped her eye for detail, texture, and form. Through textiles and garment sewing, she truly found her voice. Sewing primarily for herself, Zuzana explored a wide range of techniques, from couture construction to structured tailoring, using each project to deepen her craftsmanship and fully express her creativity.
Alongside this creative life, Zuzana pursued a degree in Economics and Marketing, building a career in the business world while keeping her craft as a deeply treasured personal passion. The two sides of her life – the analytical and the artistic – would later prove to be a powerful combination. After relocating to London and starting a family, she invested more seriously in her creative education by completing the Interior Design course at the Regent Academy of Fine Arts. This formal training gave structure and confidence to an artistic sensibility that had always been present. Her education didn’t stop there! Driven by a desire to bring her designs into the digital age, Zuzana completed courses in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign — building the technical foundation needed to translate her hand-crafted ideas into professional, print-ready artwork. This blend of traditional skill and digital fluency sits at the heart of her practice today.
Zuzana’s design work is deeply rooted in a love of color and a fascination with the natural world. Her primary focus is botanical pattern design — a genre she approaches with both painterly sensitivity and meticulous attention to detail. Her medium of choice is gouache, and there is something distinctly tactile and luminous about the way she renders petals, leaves, and organic forms on the page. Each piece begins as a carefully observed study of the world around her, transformed through color and composition into something that feels both grounded and joyful.
Yet her practice is anything but one-dimensional. She regularly explores other techniques; lino printing brings a graphic, textured quality to her work, while ink drawing allows for a more fluid and expressive line. Geometric design forms another important strand of her creative output, produced digitally with precision and a keen sense of balance. Rather than existing in isolation, these geometric compositions are often paired with her florals, providing structure and contrast that elevate both elements.
