Today we are excited to share the fabulous work of Abby Galloway, a self taught designer from a small town in Kentucky who has been illustrating and creating textile patterns for the past 3 years. In addition to her amazing florals and botanicals, Abby is the queen of taking on very fun and very unusual subjects for patterns, such as magicians, sloths, the Kentucky Derby, classic cars, dragon fruit and many others. Such a breath of fresh air!

Abby writes, “I’ve always been interested in designing and took it to a new level by learning how to create repeats and turned them into surface patterns. The majority of my work has been used for fashion design and a variety of products.

My designs are typically inspired by nature, my favorite things, memories, or the people in my life. Most of the patterns have a midcentury/whimsical/nostalgic theme with some additional Kentucky influence as tropical motifs and colors.

The process of creating a pattern varies depending on the subject. I began using mostly loose ink drawings with watercolors but have expanded to using mostly watercolors. Some designs are drawn or painted and then converted into vector format and colored digitally. I’m always looking for new ways to use and mix colors, but mostly keep to a strict colorful palette.

Currently I am trying to work on more collaborations and licensing with companies. Right now I am working with another artist to combine our efforts to make patterns based around themes. Our work is located at felinflora.com or shop.felinflora.com.
