Surface Pattern Designer: Laura Olivia

Laura Olivia-Pattern Observer-Boats

It’s hard to believe it, but Pattern Observer is coming upon it’s fifth anniversary next month! One of the most rewarding aspects of having been involved in this community for so long is seeing once “emerging designers” become professionals with thriving businesses. One of these designers is Laura Olivia, who we first featured in 2013 and have the honor of featuring once again.

Laura Olivia established her surface pattern design studio back in 2010 and has since worked with clients in the interiors, stationery, fashion and beauty product industries all over the globe. She focuses on supplying designs to the interiors and soft furnishings industry and is renowned for working closely with clients to answer their specific briefs. The wonders of the web have meant that the studio has worked on projects in Mauritius, USA, Asia and Europe with clients including Malini, Arthouse, IambyNature, Wilkinson, IndyaVogue, Dunelm, Tesco, Morrisons, Bianca Turner, Atmosphere Ltd, Mori Tessuti, Ellison First Asia, S-Blinds, and many more.

The beautiful patterns that you see here are part of Laura’s new interiors collection called ‘Mekong’, which was inspired by the floating flower markets along the Mekong Delta river in Vietnam. We are excited to announce that Laura will be our Textile Design Lab expert for the month of December! Her training will focus on designing for kitchen textiles: “tea towels, aprons, table cloths, oven gloves, including the different weaves used for tea towels and embellishments, working with factories etc.”

At Pattern Observer we strive to help you grow your textile design business through our informative articles, interviews, tutorials, workshops and our private design community, The Textile Design Lab.
